This monograph explores maritime security in the Indo-Pacific region and the strategic connections between its sub-regions. Among other issues, the authors examine 1) regional maritime security and US naval engagement across the Indo-Pacific; 2) the key maritime challenges emerging in the East China Sea; 3) India's maritime engagement across in Indo-Pacific, particularly the Indian Ocean region; 4) US policy toward the South China Sea and the implications of increasing Chinese assertiveness in the region; 5) China's policy toward the South China Sea and what factors influence this policy; and 6) Japan's maritime strategy in East Asia.
