This policy brief evaluates the operational utility and technological feasibility of developing air-breathing land-attack cruise missile (LACM) systems with engines that allow the missile to fly at supersonic and hypersonic speeds. The author concludes that LACM powered by supersonic engines would increasingly become an attractive option and feasible complement for existing military systems involved in generating firepower.
