This paper examines the US-led campaign against the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq and Syria, with a particular focus on the period of 100 days that followed the commencement of airstrikes against IS in August 2014. Among other issues, the chapters in the paper look at 1) the coalition's strategy in Iraq and Syria; 2) the evolution of IS and its military actions in 2014; 3) the development of the international coalition; 4) the cost of operations against IS; 5) the efforts of the US and Australian forces' advise and assist mission in Iraq; and 6) the international terrorist threat posed by IS.
