This commentary examines the debate in Singapore on what could have happened to the country if a 1963 operation against the Communist United Front (CUF) had not taken place and the organization had gained power. In general, the author contends that despite what a number of scholars have suggested, if the CUF had gained power, it would have been anything but peaceful and successful.
