This article reviews the proposed US-Japan Defense Cooperation Guidelines, scheduled to be finalized by the end of 2014 but postponed due to Japan's new legislation amending its right to collective self-defense. The author argues given the current security environment in the Asia-Pacific, taking more time to enable a more fruitful and detailed discussions is the prudent thing to do.
