This commentary examines the state of relations between Muslims and Buddhists in countries of South and Southeast Asia and the implications for these relations of the emergence of hard-line Buddhist movements in response to a perceived increase in Islamic fundamentalism. The author also discusses what members of the two religions can do to improve relations with one another, including what they can learn from the history of the ties between their two faiths.
