This commentary discusses how the media and analysts responded to the attacks on satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris in January 2015 in terms of their allegations that the attack constituted a failure by France’s intelligence and security agencies. The author also examines media allegations that the attack can be linked to Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and contends that both sets of assertions are speculation at best.
