This commentary contends that there is a problem with many of the terms used by the media and others, particularly when referring to violence that is perpetrated in the name of Islam. This is because the use of certain terms may not only provide legitimacy to those who perpetrate violence, such as terrorists, but can also distort or misrepresent the religions with which they are associated.
