This article discusses Germany’s September 2014 decision to deliver weapons to Iraq in support of its fight against Islamic State (IS). The authors argue that the provision of training and equipment is an important contribution to crisis management in Iraq, yet such help must be both context-specific and geared towards long-term needs.
