This paper first explains the factors that led to the victory of Maithripala Sirisena in Sri Lanka's presidential elections in January 2015. It then outlines the domestic challenges which Sirisena will face, such as parliamentary control and the Tamil question, as well as the foreign policies which the new president is likely to implement.
