This brief assesses the development of the UN’s sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) policy and the progress it has made in reducing SEA occurrences since the release of the Zeit Report on sexual exploitation and abuse in UN peacekeeping missions in 2005. The author also provides recommendations for the UN on how to prevent sexual exploitation and abuse; enforce standards and increase accountability; remedial action following abuses; and ensure the effectiveness of the overall effort to reduce SEA occurrences.
