This brief looks at India's nuclear liability law, focusing on whether India's Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act (CLNDA) conforms to the international Convention on Supplementary Compensation (CSC). The author also examines whether it is necessary for other international actors to recognize that the CLNDA conforms with the CSC, including the significance of US recognition of this; and 2) the extent to which CLNDA conformity with the CSC is necessary for the global nuclear industry to engage in nuclear commerce with India.
