This paper discusses the economic crisis facing Russia at the beginning of 2015. In particular, the author examines 1) the causes of the crisis, including the global decline in oil prices and the Western economic sanctions imposed on Russia due to Moscow's involvement in the conflict in eastern Ukraine; 2) how Russian President Vladimir Putin and his government are attempting to deal with these difficulties; and 3) the political consequences which further economic problems could have for the country.
