This commentary examines the state of Egypt's economy as well as the country's economic and development policies since President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi took power in 2014. In general, the author contends that an economic recovery is not yet on the horizon for Egypt and that the securing of foreign capital will be crucial for the large development programs that have been set out by the Sisi administration. The authors also discuss what this means for the stability of the country and provide recommendations for Germany and the EU on what policies to adopt toward Egypt.
