This commentary argues that the US and its allies must take three steps in order to prevent an Iraqi-style meltdown in Afghanistan – i.e., they need to 1) maintain intelligence and strike assets within the country, 2) bolster the Afghan forces’ counterinsurgency capabilities, and 3) sustain a 'sufficient' training and operational presence.
