This commentary discusses efforts to liberalize the movement of labor among the ASEAN countries and contends that progress has been very slow and limited. The author also discusses the reasons why there has not been significant progress in labor liberalization and suggests that it is mainly due to obstructions created by domestic laws and regulations due to differing concerns of labor-exporting and labor-importing countries. She also looks at what ASEAN countries can do further the liberalization of labor migration in the region.
