This commentary discusses the prospects for integration in ASEAN and contends that despite the organization’s 2015 target for integration, it is unlikely that the regional body will be able to become a true integrated community any time soon. The author argues that rather than focusing on its existing integration targets, it would be better for ASEAN if its plans for integration and community building were considered to be an ongoing long-term aspiration that may not be fulfilled for decades.
