This paper provides an overview of the foreign policy retrenchment strategy pursued by the US Obama administration. The author assesses 1) whether this strategy has been successful in terms of military spending, force posture, and security strategy; and 2) whether there are any alternatives to retrenchment when it comes to rebalancing the US' domestic and foreign policy priorities.
