This commentary discusses some of the aviation security implications of Germanwings Flight 4U9525, which was brought down deliberately by its co-pilot in March 2015. The author contends that a potential solution to the concerns raised by the incident could be to not only require there to be two people in the cockpit at all times, but also to have a person other than the pilot and co-pilot on the plane who could override the cockpit security measures, should the flight deck be locked.
