Following the death of former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew in March 2015, this commentary examines the relationship between Lee Kuan Yew and president Suharto of Indonesia as well as how it informed ties between the two countries. In general, the author contends that the excellent relations that were established between Indonesia and Singapore from the 1970s were fostered by the mutual trust that developed between the two leaders.
