This policy brief examines the February 9th, 2014 referendum result in Switzerland that voted in favor of imposing quotas on the number of EU citizens who are allowed to move to the country. In particular, the authors examine the challenges this decision poses to EU-Swiss relations and the freedom of movement stipulated in the EU and EU-Swiss agreements. They also discuss three options for how both actors can deal with the challenges resulting from the referendum result.
