This issue features a set of articles which each examine some of the approaches governments can take in the rehabilitation of Islamic terrorists and extremists. More specifically, the articles examine 1) the importance of terrorist rehabilitation and community engagement in counterterrorist efforts; 2) the mufti-mustafti approach to rehabilitation, which involves the counseling of terrorists and extremists to enable them to embrace moderate views; 3) the da’i-mad’uw approach, which encompasses dialogue, reflective discussion and analysis of classical religious texts between Muslims; and 4) why a rehabilitation program specifically catering to female jihadists is necessary.
