This commentary discusses the position of Central Asian states and Russia towards China’s Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) initiative, the aim of which is to enhance the infrastructural and economic connections between China and Europe. The author also discusses how China could overcome the concerns in Russia and Central Asia over the growth of Chinese influence and its economic presence in the region, particularly in light of the impact that the SREB could have on the balance of power in Moscow-Beijing relations and in Central Asia.
