This commentary discusses the Hong Kong Government's April 2015 proposal to the Legislative Council to allow citizens of Hong Kong universal suffrage to elect their Chief Executive as well as whether the proposal will actually pass. The author 1) examines the criteria for potential candidates seeking the office of Chief Executive; 2) discusses the obstacles to the nomination proposal; and 3) argues that there is a need for moderate, alternative proposals for restructuring the executive branch.
