In light of an upcoming meeting between US President Barack Obama and the leaders of the six Gulf Cooperation (GCC) states on May 13, 2015, this paper examines the risks and benefits of a hypothetical US defense pact with willing Gulf States. The author then briefly sets out how the US could employ a gradualist strategy to upgrade Washington's security relationship with the GCC countries.
