This issue features a set of articles which discuss the threat posed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Southeast Asia. More specifically, the articles address 1) the medium and message IS has used to increase its legitimacy in the eyes of its supporters in Southeast Asia; 2) the threat posed by IS in Myanmar in light of inter-communal tensions and rising Buddhist nationalism; 3) case studies of individuals who have attempted to travel to Syria and Iraq from Indonesia; and 4) the spread of IS influence among Muslims in Southeast Asian through the Internet.
