This brief compares Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chinese President Xi Jinping and argues that the two leaders have a lot in common. Similarities include 1) the hierarchical nature of the two leaders' political parties and how they rose to the top of these organizations; 2) elements of the political environments facing the two leaders, particularly the revival of popular nationalism in both countries; 3) the sheer amount of power the two leaders enjoy; 4) Modi and Xi Jinping's domestic agendas; and 5) their foreign policies, which focus on neighboring regions and engagement.
