This paper looks at the competition between Saudi Arabia and Iran in the Middle East and the position of other countries in the region toward the Saudi 2015 military intervention in Yemen. More specifically, the author looks at the impact of Saudi Arabia's and Iran's involvement in the Yemen crisis, arguing that it exacerbated the sectarian nature of the conflict. He then examines Oman’s and Pakistan’s refusal to join the Saudi intervention, Iraq’s criticism of the operation as well as Egypt’s enthusiastic support for Saudi Arabia. Finally, he looks at the implications of the Saudi operation in Yemen for US-Gulf state relations.
