May 2015

In light of Russia's hegemonic stance on the post-Soviet space and the country's actions in Ukraine in 2014, this paper discusses what the EU can do to bolster its strategic position in Eastern Europe. The authors contend that the EU should take advantage of the upcoming May 2015 Riga Summit to grant the Eastern Partnership's new associates Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine, political guarantees, material assistance and perspectives for further integration with the EU. They also set out some options for how the EU can change its relations with Russia, and how the EU can further develop its Eastern Partnership.
