This paper provides an overview of the various security cooperation structures in East and Southeast Asia. Among other things, it looks at 1) the various security challenges facing the region; 2) the roles that the US, Japan, and China play in the region's security; 3) the role EU states play in security dialogues and cooperation in the region; and 4) the various security organizations and forums in the region and the role China and the US play in these. Finally, the author provides some recommendations to EU policy makers on how to become more involved in ensuring the security of the region.
