This paper discusses some of the differences in opinion among various Islamic extremist groups and jihadist terrorist organizations when it comes to the role soccer should play in recruitment. The author explains that while some view soccer as useful recruitment and bonding tool, others view it as an infidel sport. He explains how many jihadists hoped to become professional players or have a particular connection to the sport.
