This article looks at Malaysia's response to the challenges created by the large-scale influx of Rohingyas at its shores. The author also discusses 1) why Malaysia has turned away ships carrying these refugees and the domestic problems created for the country by the crisis; 2) Malaysia’s responsibilities to respond to the crisis due to its position as ASEAN Chair; 3) the need for a long-lasting solution to the refugee crisis in Myanmar; and 4) the ASEAN community’s responsibility to protect the welfare of all its citizens, including the Rohingyas.
