This brief discusses the nature of Indian-South Korean bilateral ties following the May 2015 declaration that the two countries were upgrading their relationship to a “special strategic partnership” and a pledge to expand their defense cooperation. The author then examines India’s efforts to increase defense manufacturing cooperation with South Korea through its "Make in India" initiative, which encourages foreign businesses to manufacture their products in India highlighting, however, that both countries should manage their expectations when it comes to "Make in India" and closer defense manufacturing cooperation.
