This article discusses how, in anticipation of a possible Iran-P5+1 agreement on Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions on Tehran this could bring, segments of Iranian society are showing greater assertiveness in demanding more rights. The author also looks at the activities of opposition groups, operating largely from exile, and their demands for greater social, economic and cultural rights that have emerged in light of the expectations of what the nuclear deal could bring and President Hassan Rouhani’s effort to reduce government interference in people’s lives.
