This brief discusses the central role Pakistan can play in helping the Afghan government defeat the Afghan Taliban. The author argues that after decades of suspicion, hostility, and mutually destructive policies, a combination of circumstance, such as the election of Afghan President Ghani, and friendly relations between the Afghan and Pakistani governments present the two countries with a rare opportunity to work together to defeat the Taliban in Afghanistan.
