This commentary discusses the effectiveness of Nepal’s disaster management in the aftermath of the country's April/May 2015 earthquakes, and compares it to India’s disaster management protocol. The author notes that the earthquake in Nepal revealed how unprepared the country is for managing disasters and how dependent it is on foreign aid for recovery. He contrasts this with India's response to the 2004 Tsunami and developments in disaster management in the country since then. The paper concludes by highlighting lessons to be learned by disaster-vulnerable regions and countries on preparation and regional cooperation.
