This paper examines the challenges Singapore will face as the state transforms itself into a Smart Nation - a hyper-connected country that uses Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to enhance its people’s quality of life. The author recognizes the major benefits being a Smart Nation will bring, including reduced waiting times on roads and public transport, as well as making the country more eco-friendly and energy-efficient. However, he also warns of possible unintended negative consequences, such as the increase in the threat posed by cyber criminals and the threats to employment. The author concludes by emphasizing that Singapore must strengthen itself against such challenges.
