This issue features four articles which highlight the importance for counterterrorism strategies of understanding drivers of conflict, the need for appropriate counterterrorism legislation, and getting the right balance between state authority and individual rights. More specifically, the articles examine 1) loopholes in the immigration and refugee determination system of Canada, which the author contends are being exploited by extremists and terrorists; 2) India's vulnerability to terrorism from the sea; 3) fundamentalist Islamic religious schools in Pakistan and their potential to radicalize students; and 4) Pakistan’s lifting of a six-year ban on the death sentence in the wake of the December 2014 terrorist attack on a school in Peshawar.
