This commentary analyzes the planned revision of the European Security Strategy (ESS). The authors first look at the changes in the security environment since the ESS was first established twelve years ago that should guide the revision. They then examine the EU's regional priorities, and the global role the union could play, underlining the importance of the security relationship with the US and with NATO. Finally, the authors look at the issues of cybersecurity and what enhancing NATO would mean for the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy.
