This paper examines the security threats in Northern Europe resulting from the transformation in the Baltic States and Russia. The author discusses both the hard and soft security threats, with an emphasis on the soft issues. The author explains that such threats include instability, minority issues, water pollution and international organized crime. The paper also analyzes issues such as Nordic identity, regionalization and EU's role in Northern Europe.
