This paper reviews India’s growing defense sector and assesses prospects for EU-Indian defense procurement cooperation. The author 1) examines successful measures taken by the Indian government to encourage the development of the country's economy and defense capabilities, 2) provides an overview of EU-Indian defense supply ties, noting that India sees the EU as a group of separate actors and thus has bilateral agreements with individual states, rather than the overall EU, and 3) identifies changes which are needed if the EU and India are to become trading partners, including better coordination of EU states’ defense industries.
