This commentary discusses the factors that enable the religious groups in Singapore to exist in harmony with one another as well as what approach the country should adopt to ensure tensions do not develop in inter-religious relations in the future. The author highlights that while the state has played its part, one factor that has enabled peaceful religious relations in Singapore is the commitment of religious leaders to protect religious harmony. He then contends, however, that the harmonious relations between faiths in Singapore could be threatened by the lack of mutual understanding that exists between religious communities, before arguing that these communities must adopt an approach that accepts that religions can prosper together rather than just at the expense of one another.
