This paper assesses the different phases and achievements of the democratic transition process in Tunisia that has been underway since 2011 as well as the challenges facing the process. A key argument of the paper is that the transition in Tunisia is a unique development following the Arab Spring in the Middle East and North Africa, meaning that it cannot be considered as a model for peaceful transition to democracy in the region. The author also contends that the different factors at play in Tunisia's democratization process suggest that the long-term prospects for the process are positive. However, she also warns that there are still significant challenges facing the process.
