This issue of the CCTA features articles on the development of conflicts, radicalism and extremism across the Middle East, particularly in the time since the Arab Spring. More specifically, the articles focus on 1) the main actors and implications of the Syrian Civil War; 2) the emergence of terrorist groups in North Africa and their impact on the region; 3) the crisis in Yemen following the initiation of the campaign by the Saudi-led coalition against the Houthi rebels in March 2015; 4) the tactic of using lethal strikes, raids, and cyber operations against what are considered to be high value targets to degrade a terrorist group’s capabilities; and 5) how ISIS and al-Qaeda interpret and implement Salafi ideology as well as how this can inform efforts to combat the two groups.
