This commentary discusses some of the factors which seem to have prompted Turkey to increase its role in the international coalition assembled to fight against the so-called Islamic State in July, 2015. The author describes how persistent US pressure to act, along with an attack on July, 20, 2015 attributed to IS in the town of Suruc in southeastern Turkey have led Ankara to give greater priority to the threat posed by IS.
