This commentary examines what the July 2015 signing of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by the P5+1 nations and Iran could mean for NATO missile defense. Following a brief analysis of the threats posed by Iran and a recently bellicose Russia, the commentary's author concludes that the Obama administration will have to work closely with its allies in order to ensure absolute clarity over the future of its missile defense plans. In one respect, strengthening cooperation on missile defense would provide a measure of reassurance to out-of-area actors such as Israel and the Gulf states.
