This commentary reviews Cameroon's current security status, with a particular focus on Boko Haram's impact on the country. The text's author reminds us that prior to 2013 Cameroon had an unspoken non-aggression pact with the terrorist group which enabled the latter to use Cameroonian territory as a safe haven. Since 2013, however, Boko Haram has successively expanded its terrorist activities into the country, which may eventually undermine the frail and corrupt government in place. (A government, by the way, that’s also trying to cope with a disgruntled military.) Because of this possibility, Europe needs to develop a crisis prevention policy to thwart or minimize Boko Haram's pernicious influence in Cameroon.
