This commentary discusses the upcoming Taiwanese general election in January 2016, in which voters will choose a new president and legislature. The author discusses which candidates are contenders for the position of president and how the performance of the parties in the elections could affect the ability of the next president to govern effectively. Overall, she believes that these elections could bring a shake-up in Taiwan’s political landscape that goes far beyond a turn-over of executive power.
