This paper examines how Saudi Arabia’s involvement in the war against Houthi rebels in Yemen forms a part of the country’s defense policy, and its efforts to secure regional predominance against countries like Iran, Turkey and Egypt. A key argument of the author is that even if Saudi Arabia secures a military victory in Yemen, it may be difficult for the Kingdom to translate this into a sustainable political advantage over other powers in the region.
