This commentary argues that the 2015 influx of refugees from Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan into Europe has been mislabeled as immigration and portrayed by local right-wing politicians as an existential threat to the continent. Unfortunately, such nationalistic rhetoric could legitimize and provoke violence by jihadists and other extremists who have long used such moral inconsistencies as a justification for their ongoing aggression.
